Muslim Collective invites you to our 4th Annual Interfaith Climate-Conscious Iftar.
This year we will focus on Palestine, exploring the impact of war and apartheid on people, climate and nature. We are putting together an exhibition at the church to explore the themes of war, climate change, and the occupation of Palestine.

We invite poets to contribute works on the theme of climate change, nature and the ongoing war on/occupation of Palestine for a printed poster exhibition. This exhibition will be displayed at the Pitt St Uniting Church during our iftar, and we are exploring the possibilities of touring the exhibition. Each poem will be displayed as part of a diptych alongside a poster with facts on an aspect of the theme.

If this topic is new to you, we still encourage you to submit a poem for consideration. Below are some resources to help you get an overview of this specific aspect of the occupation of Palestine.

Submission Guidelines

Form and Length: Poems can be in any form (e.g., quatrains, sonnets, free verse) but must not exceed 19 lines.

Submission Details: Email your poem as a document, including your name, email, and contact number in the footer, to admin@muslimcollective.com by COB 11 Mar 2024.

Remuneration: Selected poets will receive $150. Copyright of the poem remains with the author, allowing for republishing.

Publication: We're exploring additional funding to publish the poems in both printed and e-book formats. We will also be publishing the poems to our social media channels.

Selection: The committee's decision is final. Copyright infringement will disqualify submissions.

Review and Modification: Contributors can review and request changes to their artwork pre-exhibition, though changes cannot be guaranteed.

Originality: Confirm your poem is an original, unpublished work.
Respect and Sensitivity: Approach the theme with respect, avoiding hate speech.

Language: Inclusion of native phrases is welcome, preferable with translations provided.

Collaboration: Joint works are welcome if all contributors are credited and agree to submission terms.

Engagement: Selected poets are encouraged to engage in related discussions and activities in the community.

Submission Confirmation: Await email confirmation within 48 hours of submission.

Cultural Sensitivity: Avoid cultural appropriation; ensure narratives respect cultural heritage.

Consent and Privacy: Obtain consent for personal stories involving identifiable individuals.
Together, let's create a dialogue that respects diversity and fosters understanding, reflecting on climate issues and the situation in Palestine through the powerful medium of poetry.
Everyone from all Communities are welcome. This is a great opportunity to get to know us and build stronger communities.
