Muslim opinions on climate have not been explored by Pollsters. Muslim Collective identified this gap and to address it, we commissioned YouGov to survey 1,000 Muslims across Australia in June 2025. What came back was unambiguous: 95% of respondents said acting on climate change was important or very important to them. This is not a fringe view: The Australian Muslim Community is speaking loudly and clearly.

The findings go further. 83% said climate action should prioritise children's rights and future wellbeing. 82% believed coal and gas corporations should contribute to fixing the harm they've caused. When asked about issues that matter to them, cost of living topped the list but issues that impact society ranked very highly as well: 83% expressed concern about climate change at a level comparable to their concern about the genocide in Gaza, a figure that says something significant about how our community understands interconnected harm.

61% identified burning coal, oil and gas (fossil fuels) as a key driver of climate change, and many are willing to take up household electrification such as buying electric vehicles and installing solar panels. Perhaps most strikingly, 52% said they would support a fatwa declaring fossil fuels to be haram, given the harm they cause to people and the planet.
